There was a Johnson family at Monticello with Joel Wheeler who was at Monticello 1860-1878 time period. Before 1860 Wheeler was the farm manager of Benjamin Randolph at Roundtop near Carter's bridge. Wheeler owned a slave named Elizabeth who had 10 children by 1860 (Wheeler vs. Wheeler 1860 chancery case). Of these 10 children, only a few are known: Mary Johnson (who married Reuben Barbour)(Mary Johnson was present at Monticello in March 1865 during the Union raid on Monticello), Susan Johnson (married William Winn), and Frederick Johnson who went back to work for Benjamin Randolph. (This made me think that Elizabeth's husband was a former slave of Ben Randolph's). The other 7 I'm not sure of their names. (The Robert & Elizabeth Johnson in 1870 census might be a 4th child who also married an Elizabeth). Albert Johnson in 1870 census appears near/on the same page as George Carr, the attorney for the Levy's and Wheeler's boss (who he paid rent to). Now if it could be proven that Albert's mother was Elizabeth...(I'll check the marraige records and see if he married post war)
